Rock River Challenge Program

The Challenge Program (Regional Safe Schools Program) is an alternative school program for regular education students who have been disruptive in the educational program in a regular school.  The program is available to students in grades 6 through 12 from districts in Lee and Ogle Counties.

Students must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for the program:

  • Suspended at least twice for a period of 4 - 10 days for  gross misconduct.
  • Eligible for disciplinary reassignment pursuant to violation of school district "zero tolerance" policies (expelled or expulsion eligible).
  • Involved in misconduct that can be demonstrated as serious, repetitive and/or cumulative, and has been previously remediated at least once by the district.
  • Youth returning from juvenile correction facilities.
