Supportive Opportunities for Adult Readiness (SOAR)
CHANGING THE WAY WE THINK
The transition program, SOAR (Supportive Opportunities for Adult Readiness), changes the way our participants move from a high school setting into a more "real world" atmosphere.
SOAR is a completely separate program from the High School Life Skills classroom. Participants between the ages of 18 and 21 inclusive have the opportunity to take part in the program that offers a wide variety of training settings for our young adults which helps them move from being students to participating fully in the community.
SOAR is structured in an apartment-like setting. Participants assist in setting up and decorating the new "living" space. With the assistance of the teacher, participants determine rules for the "home" and all activities are extensions of the apartment. Each young adult participates fully to maintain the house-hold through a set of duties to be fulfilled.
